Aiconomy vs Meta Business Agent

Meta now offers its own AI agent for business messaging. Here is an even-handed look at what it does, what a managed AI team does differently, and which suits which business.

Short answer. Meta Business Agent is an AI agent for customer messaging inside Meta's apps. Aiconomy is a managed team of six agents that covers messaging and also finance, HR, payroll, IT and marketing. If messaging in Meta's apps is all you need, start with Meta's. If you want more of the business handled, with approvals, look at a team.

What Meta Business Agent is

Meta announced global availability of Meta Business Agent on 3 June 2026, as an AI agent that answers customers on a business's behalf across WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram. According to Meta, it can answer questions, recommend products, book appointments, qualify leads and pass conversations to a person. It can be set up from the WhatsApp Business app. Meta has said it will charge for the agent.

When Meta's agent is the better choice

  • Your customers already message you on WhatsApp, Instagram or Messenger and that is where most enquiries arrive.
  • You want to start today without onboarding or a monthly plan.
  • You are happy for the conversation, data and tooling to live inside Meta's platform.

When a managed team is the better choice

  • You want customer service plus the back office: bookkeeping, VAT drafts, payroll, CV screening, IT requests.
  • You need email and website live chat covered, not just social messaging.
  • You want every consequential action approved by a human until you trust the pattern.
  • You want one monthly price and a named team rather than metered usage.

Five questions to ask any AI agent vendor

  1. How does the customer learn they are talking to an AI, and when? (See Article 50.)
  2. What happens at twice my expected volume?
  3. Which actions can the agent take without asking me?
  4. Is my customer data used to train models?
  5. How do I pause it, and how do I leave?

Questions

Is Meta Business Agent free?

Meta has said it plans to charge for the agent, including in some WhatsApp Business plans, and has published usage-based pricing during 2026. Rates change, so check Meta's current pricing pages before you decide.

Can I use Meta Business Agent and Aiconomy together?

Yes. They are not mutually exclusive. Some businesses use Meta's agent on Instagram and Messenger and a managed team for email, finance, HR and payroll. Avoid running two agents on the same channel, because customers will get duplicate or conflicting replies.

Does either option tell customers they are talking to an AI?

Under Article 50 of the EU AI Act, businesses deploying chatbots to people in the EU must make clear that the person is interacting with AI unless that is obvious. Ask any vendor, including us, exactly how and when that disclosure appears. Our approach is on the compliance page.

Which is better for a small business?

It depends on the job. If you only need quick answers and bookings on WhatsApp, Instagram or Messenger, try Meta's agent first. If you want customer service plus finance, HR, payroll, IT or marketing handled with approval controls, a team such as Aiconomy's is closer to what you need.
